If you’re looking for a game that will give everyone a good time, this is your answer.
So are you the best medicine... I mean potion maker in town? Prove it.
Quacks of Quedlinburg sets out to create a thematic, immersive, easy-going, yet competitive game. Unlike most of my early round potions, they absolutely succeed in this.
Thematically, the game really makes you feel that you are a struggling potion-entrepreneur trying to out do his competition through strategy and, when necessary, quackery. A beautifully thematic mechanism in the game is that players who are behind can use ‘rat tails’ to buff up their potions to make them larger and seem more successful. While this certainly made me feel like a quack, I had no qualms making use of this to stage a come-back that lead to a tie-game going into the final round.
Beyond this, the extra ingredients you can purchase each round to make your potions bigger and better offer significant variability for both player count and just to give a different flavor to each game.
The result? A game that is always engaging, always coaxing you back with promises of success leading to fierce competition. A push-your-luck adventure leading to laughs and joy whether you win or lose. And enough variability to be endlessly replayable week after week.
If this games a quack… well it sure fooled me.
