Terrors of London is a very solid game, and one that I am happy to have in my collection. While it did take a few plays and rules-checking, forums-browsing before I felt I had a good grasp of the rules, the game really started to flow as the mechanics fell into place.
While there are several competitive deck-builders, including many for just one-on-one play, what stood out to me about Terrors of London was the combo-ablity of their Horde Action. While much of the gameplay consists of playing cards to collect money, attack your opponent, or heal, the horde action allows you to combine groups of monsters you play, unlocking and activating additional actions in the process leading to a very satisfying and powerful turn.
The addictiveness of building these combos, combined with gameplay that takes about 20-30 minutes, ensures that win or lose, you’ll always want to play “just one more” and you won’t be disappointed.
Perhaps the biggest terror of the whole game is how little known it is.
