This game was a joy to bring to the table. I wouldn't consider myself a huge DC Comics person, but I'm likely slightly above average.. That said, I think the theme came through fairly well. For example, when playing Ares you are racing against time to find the pieces of the Sword of Hephaestus, while Ares is moving around corrupting your warriors, building road blocks, and summoning his own servants of war. It's a constant, relentless battle trying to undo what Ares just did and praying that you are able to make a little progress against him, as well.

The turn structure is made so that each player has a 2-3 possible turn action cards visible to everybody else, so that everybody can plan their moves together. However, each player has another set of possible turn action cards that are unknown until communication stops. Then, players must choose 3 of their 5-6 action cards to play in a specific order. In my games, this ended up being a masterful approach to 'quarterbacking.' Everybody can be direct and clear about their objectives, but ultimately you are responsible for your final decisions.

The game offers 3 villains, Circe, Ares, and The Cheetah who will use the same components, but with completely different mechanics and objectives, which increases the replayability quite a bit, especially when combined with 5 different hero options, each with a unique ability.
